Microsoft fined €899 million - Largest antitrust penalty by E.U. ever
Microsoft is fined €899 million by European Union for the long running antitrust case (European Commission v. Microsoft Corp.). This is the largest penalty ever imposed by European Union on a company. The European Union Microsoft antitrust case was brought by the European Commission against Microsoft for abusing of its dominant position in the software market. Case started as the result of a complaint from Novell over Microsoft’s licensing practices in 1993 asking Microsoft to divulge certain information about its server products and release a version of Microsoft Windows without Windows Media Player.
