Search engine is the chief ingredient in generating traffic; means effective search engine optimization is essential for any website to achieve the higher ranking. It is the least expensive method known to generate traffic.

I’m sure that you already know the importance of traffic and also want to get top search engine rankings in search engines such as Google; if you have your own website. But in order to attain this goal what most people do is that they put max efforts in doing link exchange, refining their meta tags along with body content but they overlook some of the basic issues.I have seen a lot many articles in magazines saying –this much million businesses will go online this year-that much next year etc. But after looking at the popular practices with which people design their site it’s obvious that they will waste more money than they make because majority of sites will just remain a thrown away brochures in cyber space. So for the search engine optimization of your website make sure not  to commit these common mistakes as it will help you avoid lot of frustration and get more traffic in the long run. I think it’s exactly the same what you want!Using wrong keywords: Choice of wrong keywords is the most common mistake found in most of the websites- which wasted all the time and effort that you devote in trying to get your site a high ranking. Choosing the right keywords is probably one of the most critical area of site design. It helps the potential customers find your site easily. This means that you need to have keywords which the visitors will be searching for. Using popular keywords and search phrases to boost visibility which has nothing to do with your website content is considered spam by search engines that may hamper your listings drastically.

Keyword stacking: Sometimes people endlessly repeat their target keywords in the anchor text and in their meta keywords tags. Just repeating the keywords endlessly not works. You can repeat the keywords couple of times but atleast it should make a grammatical sense in your pages. Even search engines are most likely to downgrade or even skip your page because of repeative stacking.

Using hidden text: Internet marketers sometimes place hidden keywords on backgrounds in the same color as the text so that the words are invisible to visitors but will be read by the search engines. This is an unethical practice and search engines are smart enough to catch such tactics.

Using Framesets: Many of the search engines don’t understand frames. In framed site several different files are being used to make up on page. So what happens is that some search engines index these files separately and the site navigation may show up on one page while the actual content on another page. It means you need to add a lot of keyword rich text to the no frames; if your site uses frames.

Using free hosting: Search engines mostly looks at where your website is hosted. They also analyze the time of your domain registration. They give more importance to any professionally hosted site with a domain name which is registered for two years or more   than a free hosted site. Sometimes they even eliminate content from such free hosts.

Using tiny text: Mostly people try to hide their keywords or keyword phrases by making them tiny. This is a kind of format as using hidden text. Here instead of making the text and the background the same color, the text size is reduced to such an extent that it appears to be a row of dots. This practice also mostly never works with top search engines. They do recognize the trick and downgrade your pages.Assuming all search engines are the same: Many people makes a mistake of assuming that all search engine works on the similar criteria. Actually each one has its own rules that are subject to change at any time as per their likes. So try to grab a point on how to attain higher visibility on each of the major search engines.

If you build a website mean people will find it!: Assuming that you have a website does not mean anyone will find and go through it or purchase anything from you. Failure to recognize the importance of search engine optimization and online internet advertising is one of the biggest mistakes committed by the people. This way nobody knows whether site exists or not. Just by designing –publishing and hoping for the best will not serve any purpose. These are a few of the methods that can have a negative impact on your website rankings in the search engines. Still you must not give in to the temptation that these methods will work; they actually gonna do more harm than good for your website. Such wasteful efforts might results in your site banned from the search engines forever. That’s why it’s always better to invest some time to learn the proper techniques for increasing search engine visibility so that your site’s net traffic shall upswing.
